Tropical storm Trami has caused devastation in the Philippines. At least 26
people have died due to the storm and more than 150,000 people have been forced
to leave their homes and move to safer places.
Rescue operations
continued for a second day to save millions of people after Tropical Storm
Trami hit the northeastern province. People trapped on the roofs of houses are
being rescued with the help of motorboats.
1500 policemen have been sent to the affected areas for relief and rescue
operations. Regional police chief Brigadier Andre Dizon said, "We cannot
rescue everyone at once because the number of people is so high. We need
additional motor boats. We can rescue affected people who cannot be evacuated
immediately.
Meanwhile, let us
also tell here that before this, last September, Hurricane Yagi had caused
devastation in the Philippines. About 20 typhoons hit the Philippines each
summer. In 2013, Typhoon Haiyan caused more than 7,300 deaths. This storm
destroyed many villages.
